KELLY
On October 7, 2014, the indomitable Catherine Kelly, age 89, died. She is survived by her cherished sons, Robert (Susan) Kelly of Lodi, N.J., Brian (Suellen) Kelly of Columbus, Ohio, and Kevin Kelly of New York. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Robert J. Kelly, and her siblings, Elizabeth Fecke and George Barclay. Born in 1925 in Philadelphia, PA, Catherine chose nursing as her profession. She tended to the sick for more than 30 years. After her retirement, she worked in a bakery for a change of pace. She and Robert moved to St. Augustine, Florida, where they remained until Robert’s death in 2005. She and Robert traveled the world, visiting 6 of the 7 continents. Catherine volunteered at Flagler Hospital and the Lightner Museum. Catherine loved reading biographies, touring places of interest, and joining in the laughter with others. When Catherine moved to Columbus, she embarked on many adventures. She served as the subject of many student nursing school projects, helping new nurses learn the profession. She cared for her “granddogs”, who all adored her. Imagine a small mature lady ordering around three 100 lb. dogs. She had more friends under the age of 60 than you would expect because she was bright, funny and interested. We are grateful to the staff at Outlook Manor, especially Charles and Joyce, for the intense and quality care she received over the last year. Catherine enjoyed her years at Feridean Commons and the thoughtful programming provided. The family is grateful to everyone who shared their time and kindness with Catherine. She always asked to see your Facebook postings and updates. Catherine will be missed by many, including Bear. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday October 11, 2014 at MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Rd., Westerville, OH 43081. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2014 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 313 N. State Street, Westerville, Ohio, Rev. Fr. Michael Hinterschied, celebrant. A private burial will take place at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to Citizens for Humane Action, 3765 Corporate Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43231. http://www.chaanimalshelter.org/index.php/donate/ or The Westerville Public Library, Westerville Library Foundation, 126 S. Condolences
Dan & Bonnie Caplin - Oct 14, 2014
Our deepest condolences to the family of Catherine Kelly. We have had the great joy of bringing Holy Communion to Catherine at Emeritus Outlook Manor. Catherine was a beautiful, devoted Catholic woman who loved Our Lord. She was always so excited to see us on Monday mornings and receive Our Lord.
It will not be the same at Emeritus without Catherine’s smiling face but we know she is happy with JESUS and her family who have gone before her. So sorry we could not share these condolences in person but we were at the Abbey of Gethsemani in Kentucky on retreat until last evening. God’s blessings, Dan & Bonnie Caplin – EUCHARISTIC Ministers from St. Paul the Apostle
