ALTIZER

Carol M. Altizer, age 77, of Centerburg, passed away Saturday morning, September 28, 2013. Born to Lawrence and Martha (Myers) Morey on August 15, 1936, Carol was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, trusted friend and faithful servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. After graduating from Centerburg High School, Carol married Jay Altizer on August 21, 1955. They followed his Air Force career to Florida, Alaska and Washington, D.C. before moving back to Centerburg in 1960 where they made their home and raised their children. She exemplified quiet strength when life seemed unfair to her family – namely when she lost two of her sons in tragic accidents. Carol was a rural mail carrier for the Centerburg Post Office for a number of years after her children were grown. She was a member of the Milford Church of Christ for 66 years. Carol always offered a warm smile, a kind word and a helping hand. She will be missed by those whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 51 years Jay Altizer in 2007, sons Adam in 1977, Luke in 1995 and her parents. She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Jim) Casner of Centerburg, Barbara (Mark) Berry of Bellville and Dr. Fred Altizer of Centerburg; grandchildren, Joshua (Niki) and Jennifer Casner, Rich, Ben (Melody) and Markie Berry, Zane, Graham and Abby Altizer; great-granddaughter, Lilly Casner; sisters, Grace (Dude) Park of Centerburg, Lola Jones of Springfield, Miriam Hulse of Mt. Vernon, and Norma (Charlie) Cox of Westerville; brother, Richard (Marie) Morey of Mt. Vernon and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Milford Church of Christ, 3648 Johnstown Road, Centerburg, Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and 1 hour before the service at the church Wednesday at 11 a.m. Ministers Gary Thomas, Fred Albrecht and Russell Waddell will be officiating. Interment will be at the Moreland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the Milford Church of Christ or The Kidney Foundation. Arrangements by JOHNSON-MELICK-MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, Centerburg, OH.

Condolences

She was my hero…she was a big contributor to my Godly heritage. I cannot grieve for her — she is so happy in the presence of Christ. But I will grieve for me… and always remember beautiful birthday cakes and sugar Easter eggs….
I love you all.

What a beautiful sentiment that is expressed in those works. Although they are very true and capture Carol’s essence as a person, those of us who spent much of our childhood with Carol and her family would probably agree that they do not even come close to describing what a genuine, wonderful and caring person she was,Always putting others first, doing things for those who couldnt do for themselves. I will always cherish the memories of an afternoon at the Altizer’s place, playing Star Trek with my cousins. The love that Carol passed to all of us will continue to be spread throughout the community and our family, just as she would have liked. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
