Blanche Holbrook, age 91 of Bloomington, Indiana, and formerly of Mt. Liberty, Ohio, passed away at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 6, 2016, at Brown County Health and Living Community in Nashville, Indiana. Born March 9, 1924, in Blaine, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Walter D. and Stella (Wheeler) Salyer. Blanche married Conrad B. Holbrook in 1947. He preceded her in death in 2003. Blanche always worked as a cook or a nurse’s aid in nursing homes in the Centerburg area, but her childhood and early life were spent in Kentucky. She moved to Gahanna, Ohio, with her family in the 1940’s and worked in the cafeteria at Curtiss-Wright in Columbus during WWII. Following the war, she went to work for Timken Roller Bearing. After her marriage Blanche and her husband Con began farming first near Chesterville and then on Tucker Road, Mt. Vernon, Ohio. They spent their last years living in Mt. Liberty, Ohio. Blanche is survived by her two children and their spouses, Robert (Martha) Holbrook of Galion and Jane (John) Patton of Bloomington, Indiana; one grandson, Jeffrey (Jessica) Holbrook of North Canton; two great grandchildren, Samantha and Jackson Holbrook; her sister-in-law, Donna (James) Salyer; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were Blanche’s parents, her sisters Maxine (Harold) Skaggs, and Dorothy (Luther) Burton and brother James Salyer. Family and Friends may call at JOHNSON-MELICK-MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 49 W.Church Street, Centerburg, Ohio, Friday, March 11, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. when services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Frank Kirk officiating. A brief graveside service will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg. Blanche was a woman of faith. She loved her church and her family and friends.
