WENZEL
Betty J. Wenzel, age 91, of Columbus, passed away peacefully at Summit’s Trace (Lutheran Village) on Thursday, September 24, 2009. Born in Hickory, North Carolina and graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College with a degree in math and history. She taught high school algebra and history for several years in North Carolina before her marriage. After her marriage she moved to Columbus and was employed by the Timken Co.. She raised 4 children then became an editor of math books at the Charles E. Merrill Book Co. and retired in 1974. 60 year member of Grace Lutheran Church and was active in the Women’s Circles. An honorary alumnus of Capital University in 1984. Preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Hugo. Survived by daughters, Margaret (Terry) Lewis of Lima, Susan (Steve) Maht of Westerville and Nacy (Bill) Halsey of Reynoldsburg; son, Jeffrey (Cindy) Wenzel of Colorado; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, Sunday 2-5 p.m.. Funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 100 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, Monday at 11 a.m., Pastor Richard Walston, officiating. Interment Blendon Central Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Rose of Concern Fund at Lutheran Village of Columbus, 935 Cassady Avenue, Columbus, OH 43219 or the Capital University Scholarship Fund in her name.
