Betty Ann Smith, passed away peacefully at Manor Care Health Services in Westerville, Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012. She was born to William Floyd and Leona Myrtle Smith March 3, 1921 in Portsmouth, OH. Survived by her brother, James D. Smith, Sr. of Westerville; nephews and nieces, J. Donald (Joan) Smith, Jr., of Westerville, Melanie S. (Jim) Riley, of Mansfield, OH, Darrell L. (Susan) Smith of Crestview, FL, William H. (Beverly) Smith of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, Herb S. Smith (partner, Rich Yost) of Jacksonville, FL, and Carol S. Lutz of Ashley, OH; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and several cousins. Betty worked as a civil service clerk in Dayton, OH, Mobile, AL, Memphis, TN and retired from the Defense Construction Supply Center in Columbus, OH after 28 years of honorable federal service. She was an avid golfer and bowler, a member of Verick the Florist bowling team and the Hillcrest Golf Club of Columbus. Aunt Betty’s favorite pastimes were enjoying the Reds games on TV with family and friends and spoiling the neighbor’s dogs with treats, as well as her own dog, Ladybug. Aunt Betty was a strong, independent woman; small in stature but mighty with her voice. She will be greatly missed by her family, who loved and adored her, and appreciated her antics on life. Graveside service will be held at Blendon Central Cemetery, Westerville, OH today, Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. Arrangements by MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, Westerville, OH. The family wishes to thank the staff and management teams at Wesley Ridge Retirement Community, The Village at Westerville Retirement Center, Manor Care Health Services and Heartland Hospice for their skilled concern and attention to Betty over the past seven years.
