LEONARD


Arnold David Leonard of Westerville, Ohio passed away, with his family by his side, Friday, October 30, 2009. Born in Johnson City, NY, January 13, 1926, he lived a long, full life that encompassed a wide range of interests and rich experiences. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Elizabeth Swartz Leonard. He earned a B.S. and M.S. in Geology from Penn State University and a PhD in Earth Sciences from West Virginia University in 1962. Professor of Life and Earth Sciences at Otterbein College from 1964 to 1989, he was a teacher, mentor and father, full of life, cherished and treasured by everyone who knew him. An avid golfer and Penn State fan, he was a life-long learner, self-taught in photography, gardening, and wood-working. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and grandchildren as well as traveling. He is survived by his daughters, Janet (Bill) O’Malley, Cathy (Don) French, and Susan (Rusty) Holbrook; sons, Steve (Julie) Leonard, and Eric (Carrie) Leonard, 12 grandchildren; and beloved dog Ginger.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friend’s at Arnie’s house, 102 Triesta Pl. in Westerville on Monday, Nov. 2 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Arrangements by MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, Westerville.
