James "Jim" Michael Kirn, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away on, Monday, June 5th , 2023, at the age of 83.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 30 ,1939. Jim graduated from St. Joe’s High School in Cleveland, Ohio. After high school he attended John Carroll and graduated from University of Detroit with a bachelor’s degree. Jim married Shirley, the love of his life on, February 16, 1963.
Jim was proud of the career he had built as an accountant. His career was able to provide for his family as well as sending him all over the world. Jim’s travels allowed him the opportunity to make memories with Shirley and many lifelong friends. Once Jim retired, he and Shirley spent their winters in Naples, Florida enjoying each other’s company and the retired country club life. If you were blessed to know Jim, you’d know that family and friends came first. He was a selfless man who would do anything for the ones he loved. That testament came true when Jim spent many years taking care of his wife Shirley, during her difficult battle with Alzheimer’s. A real life “The Notebook” story, “That’s my sweetheart in there. Wherever she is, that’s where my home is.” We find peace and comfort knowing he has reunited with her.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Matusz) Kirn; daughter, Judith (Kirn) Spicer; parents, Frederick Kirn and Ellen (Delahanty) Kirn; brother and sister-in-law, Frederick and Nancy Kirn; niece, Cheryl (Kirn) Nye.
He is survived by his loving family, children, Dan (Julie) Kirn, Susan (Steve) Bean, son in law, Patrick Spicer, Terry (Beth) Kirn; grandchildren, Megan (Charles), Joe (Katelyn), Mackenzie (Tyler), Nicole (Dan),
Casey, Jacob, Lizzy, Cameron, Colin, Brady; great grandchildren, Nicholas, Amelia, Brantley, Leila, and Addison.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association https://www.alz.org/ or the American Heart Association https://www.heart.org/
Please join the family in celebrating Jim’s life with calling hours to from 2- 4:30 pm Friday, June 9 th, 2023, with services to immediately follow at Moreland Funeral Home, 55 E. Schrock Rd., Westerville, Ohio 43081.

We are just learning of Jim’s passing. We were neighbors in Florida. Jim was one of the greatest person we ever meet. We loved him and we would tell him so. He would respond that he loved us. We learned a great deal about life and love from Jim and Shirley. We cherish out friendship with them and will miss them forever. All the best to the Kirn family.

Jim and Shirley were such special friends to us! Our most heartfelt condolences go out to their family. My soul is happy, though, just knowing that they are together again. They had such amazing love that will last through all eternity. Lanny and I will love and remember them always.

It was an honor and privilege to be neighbors of Jim and Shirley for over 18 years. Their love for each other was one to be admired. We will cherish the memories of parties at the fountain, dinners, happy hours and always great conversation. Jim loved his family and had a sparkle in his eyes whenever he would speak of them. We will miss him terribly, but find comfort knowing he's reunited with the love of his life and his beautiful daughter Judy. Our prayers are with Jim's family and friends.

Please accept my heartfelt sympathy in the death of James Kearn. I will cherish the memory of sharing the golf cart with Jimmy as we played different golf courses in Knox and Richland Counties. He spoke of his family often, and I love remembering some of his beautiful stories. I will greatly miss him.

Dear Kirn Family, My loving thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this sad time. I have always looked up to all the Kirns as the standard of excellence a family should strive to achieve. You are and have been continually been in my prayers for Judy, Mrs. Kirn, and now your sweet dad/grandpa. Mr. Kirn shared with me the loveliest memory at my Dad’s showing in March. I am out of town and won’t be able to come to his services but know you are all in my prayers.
