In Memory of
Michael R. Hance
October 3, 1962 - December 23, 2021

Spring/Summer of 2022

Michael "Mike" Hance, 59, suddenly left this world 12/23/21 from causes unrelated to COVID. Mike's greatest gift was his heart, a beacon full of love and compassion. It was his huge heart that ultimately led to his early passing.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, father Robin Hance, daughter Brittany, nephew Zak Crum.

Lovingly remembered by many; his 3 sons, Jeremy (Jen) Ranalli, Brandon (Jen) Hance and Dustin Hance; grandchildren, Rylan, Luca and Brecken Ranalli; mother Sandra (DB) Bumgarner; his sweetie pie, Ruthann Kennedy and her 3 children Melissa (Dave) Langton, Melanie (Ryan Pepper) Kennedy, Patrick (Lauren) Kennedy; his sister Laura Hance Crum and her children Jamie (Melissa) Crum, Brooke Crum and Wes Crum; his brother Brad (Laura) Hance and their children Alli (Doug) Redinger and Lindsey Hance; great nieces and nephews; as well as countless other family members, friends and neighbors.

Mike was born and raised in Westerville, OH and was a 1981 graduate of Westerville North High School. He was a natural athlete and excelled at bowling, waterskiing, golf and fishing. In his youth, he claimed that he towed his first boat to Hoover Reservoir with a lawn tractor, and expanded his love of boating with countless trips to Lake Erie. He lived in Florida for several years, and spent as many days as possible fishing on his beloved Checkmate boat. He was at home on the water and enjoyed sharing his passion with others. He excelled as a handyman and enjoyed going to work every day, especially when he could take his "boys", son, Dustin and dog, Wagner.

Mike adored his partner, Ruthann, his children and his grandchildren. He cherished family and his friends. He loved animals, Budweiser in a bottle, sports and the Buckeyes. He knew no strangers, had a zest for life, loved to tell a long winded story, was the life of the party and most of all, he had fun.

Though he has departed his physical form, the light of his love shines on amongst all those he touched. We continue to celebrate his memory and extraordinary life, knowing well we are the better for having crossed paths. A celebration of life will follow in the early Spring/Summer of 2022. As Mike would say "Sea You Then."

Sandy, there are no words to express how sorry I am to hear of your loss. I remember like it was yesterday when you lived in the house on Vine St and I would visit. We were young mothers but we raised great children. My prayers and love to you and your family. May God's love help you through these difficult days.

What can I say, I loved him so very much. For 32 years, he was like a brother to me and and I am pretty sure he felt the same. My life will never be the same, but know he will always be by my side with the best memories of my life. My condolences to his family and Ruthie. Know that I will always be there and love you very much. Not goodbye but sea you later.

My heart aches for all of you. I was blessed to spend time with Mike many times. golfing, White Sulfer, all through high school, the great many soccer trips(all individual stories on their own), and lucky enough to have had his kids in my classroom as a teacher, and on the field as a coach. This is too real. My family sends prayers and love to all of you.

Unbelievable we lost such a great, fun guy way too early. Mike and Dusty did our bath remodels a few years ago. Bob met them at Royal American when he was a starter, and they connected. The guys played golf there a few times. Mike and Dusty came to our old home daily for 4-5 months, always a joy to be around, and absolute professionals in their trade. Every day Mike had a story of admiration for love of his life, Ruthie. Prayers for the family,we will never forget his sweetness, stories, and kindness.

My sincere condolences to all those who were close to Mike. He will be missed by so many, including those like myself, who only had brief, infrequent interactions with him. I truly enjoyed talking to him when I visited my father. I had the good fortune to speak to him this year as he was hanging Christmas lights and, as always, he made me laugh and appreciate how much he cared for others. I went away thinking I am so happy my father has a kind, caring neighbor like Mike. Mike was larger than life and he will be missed by all who met him.

Mike was one of a kind. Always living life to it's fullest, every day! I met Mike when we grew up in the "Reservation" area in Westerville. We reconnected after high school as we both started raising families & hung out as our kids went to BW together. We have many fond memories of lake time with Jamie/Cindy Murray & family as they were gracious enough to invite us there over the summer months when the kids were growing up. His light will continue to shine through his family & friends lucky enough to have known him. Cheers Mike, see you then. xo
