Jon Samuel Kassner, Sr. of New Albany, Ohio was born to the late Emil R. and Gladys E. Norden Kassner on December 8, 1939 in Jamestown, Rhode Island. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith on April 18, 1943. He was confirmed in the same faith on May 17, 1953. Jon was a graduate of Westerville High School class of 57 where he enjoyed playing the trumpet. He graduated from Franklin University College of Business and Technology and retired from Ameritech as a Power Engineer. He also served in the U.S. Army and was active most of his life with the Ohio Military Reserve.
Throughout his life, Jon was known to have loved anything cowboy or western themed. He was an avid member of AimHi where everyone knew who "Jon Kassner" was. He enjoyed tinkering with electronics. Most people were gravitated to him by his dry and unusual sense of humor. If Jon Kassner freely joked with you, you knew he was fond of you. This was his way. He loved his wife and his family more than he would ever say.
Jon was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur E. Kassner, sisters-in-law, Josephine Kassner (Arthur E.) and Delores Kassner (Robert E.) and in-laws, George J. Stick and Ruth M. Stick.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Marie Stick Kassner of almost 56 years. Jon is also survived by brothers: Richard N. (Ruth) Kassner of Phoenix, Arizona, Robert E. Kassner of Douglas, Wyoming, sisters: Elaine (Don) Bierly of Mt. Dora, Florida, Elly (Jerry) of Littlestown, Pennsylvania, daughters: Elizabeth (Jonathan) Martindale of Sunbury, Ohio, Karen (David) Rosenthal of Oswego, Illinois, sons: Jon Kassner, Jr. of Westerville, Ohio and Jeffrey Kassner of Columbus, Ohio, grandchildren: Tiffany (Kilburn) Sherman, Anthony DelGreco, Jacob DelGreco, Jessica DelGreco, Nicholas DelGreco, Maxximilian Martindale, David Rosenthal, Kaitlin Rosenthal and Abigail Rosenthal, great grandchildren: Kaeden Sherman, Tess Sherman, additional grandchildren/great grandchildren: Nathan, Tyler, Presley, Sydney, Spencer, Julian, Evan, Priscilla, Dakota, Bellamy, Markus, Jolene and Tracy.
Jon was given the gift of eternal life on Friday, July 2, 2021, after a long struggle with serious illnesses. "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah - 41:10
Visitation will be held Monday, July 12th from 6-8 p.m. at Moreland Funeral Home 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville, OH 43081 where a service will be held Tuesday, July 13th at 12:00 p.m.. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
