MOON

Robert L. Moon, 83, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. A proud graduate of the University of Michigan, he wore his Wolverines sweatshirt to the end. He served the underprivileged and advocated for the voiceless in roles that included City Manager, Welfare Director, high school career counselor and Habitat for Humanity volunteer. He moved to the city of Westerville, Ohio in 1969, and fell in love with the small but rapidly growing community. Over the following decades, he worked tirelessly to aid that growth through his activities with the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Westerville Board of Education. Robert was also an active member and strong voice in the choir at Central College Presbyterian Church and, more recently, First Presbyterian Church of Westerville. He is survived by his “honey” of 62 years, Joan, children Martin (Vicki), Matthew (Theresa), Sue (Bob Swihart) and Daniel (Lisa), nine grandchildren and five great-children. Several of his survivors are Buckeyes, whom he has forgiven. Visitation with the family will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 7 at First Presbyterian Church of Westerville, 41 W. College Ave., Westerville, OH 43081. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 PM. Rev. Mark Gauen officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Habitat for Humanity – MidOhio. Arrangements by MORELAND FUNERALHOME, Westerville.
