STEIN
Carol Belle Stein, age 73, of Johnstown, passed away at her residence on Dec. 6, 2010. Born Jan. 1, 1937 to the late Henry E. and Elizabeth B. (Saiter) Stein in Columbus. Carol graduated from Worthington High School, Lake Erie College (Painesville), and received her Masters and PhD degrees from The Ohio State University. Carol worked as a curator at the OSU Museum of Zoology where she conducted research on freshwater mollusks for 31 years. Carol’s greatest love in life was her dogs. She trained and showed many dogs. She also rescued dogs and placed them in adoptive homes. Carol was very involved with the Columbus All-Breed Training Club for many years. Carol helped 4H clubs and anyone interested in caring, training, and rescuing dogs. She trained and worked therapy dogs with Therapy Dogs International to comfort and help patients in nursing homes. Carol is survived by sisters, Sandy (Rol) Bloom of Westerville and Sunny (Larry) Humphrey of Johnstown; nieces and nephews, Jon (Beth) Bloom, Pam (Slim)White, Cindy (Grant) Reed, Christie (Richard) McVeigh, and Andy (Amy) Humphrey and great nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, Thursday 2-4 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. Private interment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Dear Family and Friends of Carol,
I extend to you my deepest condolences on Carol’s passing. Though we never met in person, I have e-known her for a number of years through Corgi-L and Corgi Rescue-L. I just learned of her death, and it saddens me to hear that this fine person is gone. May you be consoled by the memories of her intellect and kind and generous nature.
I don’t know what arrangements have been made for her dogs, but please, if you need any help placing them, please contact me, and I will find someone in Ohio or thereabouts (I’m in Texas—a wee bit away) to take them.
At my father’s funeral, I read an Irish saying he had clipped out, along with the addendum he had penned at the bottom. It was a kind of precursor to the Rainbow Bridge story, saying that at the end of your life, when you cross through the golden gates, you will be greeted by all the dogs whose lives you touched on earth. My dad had written, “But think of the NOISE!”
I know that somewhere, Carol is being greeted by a cacophony of barks and howls.

Carol fostered the Belgian Malinois I adopted over 8 years ago. We exchanged greetings over the years, though I only met her once, a few years ago. You knew instantly how much she loved helping dogs, she was just so at ease with them, and they with her. I know she will be greatly missed.

When I first came to Columbus I rented a room at the grandmother of Carol. Well that lead to many happy years of working at the museum.
Carol may be gone but her memories will always be with us.

Carol will be missed. I first met her through the Ohio Valley Pembroke Welsh Corgi club and then we met up again when competing in United Kennel Club agility.

I met Carol when I started working as a student intern at the Ohio Historical Society Museum in 1962 and worked with her on and off until the Navy and Graduate School took me away from OSU in the early 1970s. Carol’s dedication to mussels, snails, and all other aquatic life was incredibly intense; however, she was always ready to explore new ideas and approaches to help accomplish her goals. I am glad to have known her.

I met Carol through the OhioCorgi picnic and Corgi Rescue. We loved to see her little Corgi, Classy carry a little basket in her mouth and go from person to person asking for donations for CorgiAid. Carol will be sadly missed by many people … She was one special lady and it was an honor to know her.

I am so very sorry and sad to hear of Carol’s death. She was an amazing woman with a true dedication to all dogs. I met Carol at the Ohio Corgi picnics she attended. She will be missed by all of us. My prayers are with her family as she rests in God’s loving arms.

I met Carol through Corgi Rescue and the annual Ohio Corgi picnic in Marion, Ohio. I was always amazed by Carol’s dedication to her dogs and to rescue despite her physical limitations. She pushed on when others would have given up. I will always remember her and her little dog Classy – the two of them were a class act.
My sincere condolences over your loss. She will be missed.
