SMITH (BURWELL)
Jo Ann (Burwell) Smith, age 81, Minerva Park, walked out of our world into the arms of Jesus on May 22, 2010, surrounded by her family. She leaves behind her husband of 52 years Robert W. Smith, son Steven Smith and daughter Kimberly Smith Edwards (Steve) of Wellington; sisters Rachel Barrow, Minerva Park, and Bernie (Gene) Williams of Lutz, Florida; Grandchildren, Sara Edwards (Matt) O’Malley and daughter Madison; Steven and Cindi Edwards and daughter Layla, and Jacqi Edwards; all of central Ohio, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Preceded in death by parents, Fen and Wilda Burwell; brothers Ernest, Carl, Earl and Dan Burwell; and sisters, Thelma Hard, Mary Herder, Mildred Timson, and Betty Homer. Jo was the 9th of 11 children.
Jo Ann was raised in Minerva Park, Ohio, a graduate of Westerville High School, Class of 49. She was an avid softball player in her younger days, playing on the Minerva Team, which consisted of the Burwell sisters, cousins and nieces. Softball was a sport she enjoyed following all of her life. Jo Ann retired from North American Rockwell after16 years of service. She was a charter member of Minerva Park E.U.B Church, now Minerva Park United Methodist. She will be missed by many. especially her husband, son and daughter who have cared for her daily during these last eight months as she battled incurable cancer.
Calling hours will be Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 at Moreland Funeral Home in Westerville where services will be conducted Weds. 10:00 a.m. by Dr. David Hogg, cousin and retired pastor of Church of the Master U.M. in Westerville. Burial at Blendon Cemetery. The family would like to thank Denise from Mt. Carmel Hospice Care for her guidance and assistance in the last several weeks.

Will miss seeing Jo at my sister Darlene’s house for family functions. She was a lovely lady and a very warm individual that loved family and friends. My very sincerest regrets to her loving husband and Kimmy & Smitty who were great friends to Darlene & Bruce.
