CARLTON, Dr. Robert L
Surrounded by loving family members, Robert L Carlton, 91, of Columbus, Ohio, died peacefully on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Willow Brook Christian Home in Columbus, Ohio. He has fought the good ?ght, he has ?nished the race, and, he has remained faithful. He now leaves this earth to receive his reward.
He was born on June 1, 1918, in Murray, Kentucky. He is a graduate of Murray State University (1948, BA) and The Ohio State University (1950, MA; 1953, Ph.D.). A retired licensed clinical psychologist, he was employed by Children’s Mental Health Center in Columbus, Ohio, where he served as a staff psychologist (1952-55), chief psychologist (1955-63) and Associate Director (1963-82). He maintained a private practice during this period and for several years following his retirement. He also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Department of Psychiatry (1966-77) and Adjunct Associate Professor with the Department of Psychology (1962-71) at The Ohio State University.
He was a WWII USAF pilot (1942-46, PTO) and retired from the US Air Force Reserve in 1978 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle who was unreservedly committed to his family and Savior, Christ Jesus. A man of abiding faith, he set an unparalleled ethical and moral standard in his spiritual, professional, and personal journey through life. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert B. Carlton; mother, Ophelia Hughes Carlton; brother, James A. Carlton; and grandson, Ryan Keith Carlton. He is survived by his wife, Frances Suiter Carlton; sons, Glenn (wife, Sharon) and Keith Carlton (wife, Melanie); brother, Edward Carlton (wife, Maryanne); grandchildren, Chad, Lisa, Robert and Leah Carlton; great-grandchildren, Todd, Ryan and Kelsey Carlton; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Horman, David and Douglas Baer and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind, but enthusiastically welcomed by his Lord and Savior.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 17, at 7:00 p.m. at the Moreland Funeral Home, 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville, Ohio. Family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until time of the service. Internment will be at Murray Memorial Gardens, Murray, Kentucky. In lieu of ?owers, contributions may be made in the memory of Dr. Robert L Carlton, to Willow Brook Christian Home, 55 Lazelle Road, Columbus, Ohio 43235.
