Sylvia M. McBride, age 78, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away on July 1, 2026 after a brief, yet courageous battle with ALS.
Formerly a resident of New Washington, OH and a 1965 graduate of Buckeye Central High School, Sylvia was employed by Swan Hose for many years before moving to the Columbus area. In Columbus, she was employed by several clothing retailers before retiring earlier this year from Kohl’s Department Store.
Sylvia was an active member of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish after joining St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in 1985. Over the years she volunteered in many different programs of the church. She also never passed up the chance to go on a road trip, try a new restaurant, or have coffee with friends. She treasured meaningful conversations with those she loved. However, Sylvia’s grandchildren were the light of her life. She simply loved her time with them.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Meredith (Robert) Bryant; her cherished grandchildren, Connor, Emma, and Noah Bryant; her brother, Raymond (Linda) Studer; her sister, Maureen Studer; her nieces, Maren (Anthony) LaGuardia, Emily (Jordan) Bell, and Alyssa (Patrick) McArdell, her great-nieces and nephews; and many, many cousins. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Cyril and Dorothy (Rehman) Studer; her husband of 51 years, Sam McBride (a native of Bucyrus); her sister, Rosemary Studer; her in-laws Ruth and Clarence McBride; her sister-in-law Gloria Best; her nephew, Steven Lohr; her niece, Treva Brush; and many other loved family members and dear friends.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Monday, July 27, at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish (6077 Sharon Woods Boulevard in Columbus) with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Resurrection Cemetery with a luncheon afterward.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul or Westerville Area Resource Ministry (WARM), organizations that were especially meaningful to Sylvia.
