Service
A funeral service will be held on Saturday February 28 at 11:00 a.m. at First Community Church South Campus located at 1320 Cambridge Road, Columbus Ohio. A celebration of life gathering for family and friends will follow from 1:15-4:00 p.m. at The Understory Hall located at 2571 Neil Avenue.
Carol Lee Alfred, age 87, passed away on February 12, 2026. She lived a life defined by warmth, creativity, and deep devotion to friends and family. Those who knew her will remember her positive spirit, handwritten notes, and the quiet strength with which she supported the people she loved.
Born on September 11, 1938 to Lloyd and Helen Kruckeberg, Carol was raised with Midwestern values that shaped her throughout her life. She attended Ohio State University where she studied Home Economics. After college, she moved to New York and worked for Lord and Taylor before returning to Columbus to work for Lazarus.
Carol’s passions centered on community and family. She devoted twenty years to fundraising for the Childhood League, generously giving her time and energy to helping others. Above all, she was a devoted mother to four children and later a joyful and proud grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Kelly Friedl (formerly Eichhorn), Christopher Eichhorn (Karolina), Eric Eichhorn (Qian Li), and Jonathan Alfred; grandchildren, Johann Friedl, Maxine Soss, Roman Eichhorn, Matilda Eichhorn, Gustav Eichhorn, Essa Eichhorn, and Leo Eichhorn, and great-grandchild Stefania.
She was preceded in death by former husband, Charles P. Eichhorn and her second husband, Edward M. Alfred.
