Charles “Wendell” Watt, age 98, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, surrounded by family.

Wendell was born on October 2, 1927, in Westerville, Ohio, to the late Leland and Florence Watt. He grew up in Westerville, attending Central College Grade School and graduating from Westerville High School in 1945. As a teenager, Wendell was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and volunteered as an usher at Ohio State University football games, a role that reflected his lifelong Buckeye pride.

Following high school, Wendell proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. As part of a peacekeeping unit stationed in Germany, he rose to the rank of Sergeant before receiving an honorable discharge.

After returning home, Wendell began his career at Egan & Ryan Funeral Home and later became a purchasing and scheduling manager at Plaskolite. In 1962, he joined an insurance agency in Westerville, where he eventually became the owner. He dedicated himself to serving the community through his work until his retirement in 1992.

In 1954, Wendell married his beloved wife, Charlotte Ross Watt, who preceded him in death. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and service.

Wendell was a lifelong member of Central College Presbyterian Church, where he faithfully served as an Elder, Deacon, and Head Usher. His commitment to the community extended beyond the church as he served as past PTA President of Central College Elementary School, was a longtime member of the Westerville Lions Club, and was an active member and treasurer of the Amalthea Historical Society.

He is survived by his children, Steve (Cindy) Watt, Craig (Kathy) Watt, and Jody (Jeff) Daily; his grandchildren, Ryan, Amy, Christopher, Adam, Lindsey, and Mitchell; and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great pride and joy.

In addition to his wife, Wendell was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Eloise Trapp and Francis Trapp.

A Memorial Service will be held in Ellsworth Chapel at Central College Presbyterian Church, 975 S. Sunbury Rd., Westerville, OH 43081, on Friday, January 16, at 10:30 a.m., with lunch to follow his inurnment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central College Presbyterian Church.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caring staffs of Inniswood Village Assisted Living, Country View of Sunbury, and Bella Care Hospice for their compassion and support.

Condolences

Carol Milligan - Jan 17, 2026

Please accept my sincere condolences. The Watt Family was very important to my late husband Fritz for most of his life. Fritz recounted the story of his first day of school at Central College. When he got off the bus, he hid in the bushes because he was afraid. Leland found him and convinced him that all would be well. Wendall shared office space with the Milligans on Dempsey Road. Wendall was a gentleman in the true meaning of the word, kind, gentle, honest, hard working and the list is endless. This quote has been helpful to me and perhaps will touch you. “Grief is love that has nowhere to go.” May you find solace in your memories.
