Helen K. Randels, of Columbus, age 98, died peacefully at First Community Village Friday, December 26, 2025. She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Jim Randels; her brother Bob, her daughter, Susie and son-in-law, Harry.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Jim) Leffel; grandchildren, Tim (Dunja) Leffel, Amy (Devin) Condon; great grandchildren, Mila and Anya; sister in law Anita, many nieces and nephews, including Jack, Jill and Marti and their families.
Helen was born in Oxford, Ohio, to Howard and Mabel Kramer. She graduated from Miami University in 1948 and received a Master’s Degree in math education from OSU in 1950. Helen
worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in data analysis where she met Jim Randels; they were married in 1956. While raising their daughters, Helen had a 40-year career as a math instructor, finishing her career as a computer programmer at OSU.
Helen loved golf, traveling the world with Jim, rooting for the Buckeyes and spending time with family and friends. She was calm and kind with a keen and subtle wit. She was a long-time member of and volunteer at First Community Church. Helen and Jim were residents at First Community Village, where they could be seen every day walking through the Chelsea. They are walking together again.
Visiting hours will be Saturday, January 17th at the Burkhart Center, First Community Village, 1802 Riverside Drive, Columbus, 43212 from 10-11am, with a memorial service at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Community Village.
