Mary Ann Melvin, 87, a beloved nurse, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend died peacefully at home on December 19, 2025, surrounded by her children.

Born on June 9, 1938, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, to John and Vina Azelvandre, Mary Ann was the eldest of three children. She grew up with her sister Clare Glenn and brother Don Azelvandre.

After graduating from Notre Dame High School in Clarksburg, she earned her nursing degree from Mount Carmel School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. Her career as a registered nurse was spent primarily at Mount Carmel Medical Center, where she worked in Labor and Delivery, helping bring countless babies into the world, including several of her own grandchildren.

In 1960, she married John Melvin, with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage until his passing in 2019. Together, they had seven children: Kathleen Marie (deceased), Eileen Hines, Dianne Kline, John P. Melvin, Catherine Warner, Michael Melvin, and Richard Melvin. Her family grew to include 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann was an original member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Columbus, where she served as organist, choir member, cantor, lector, and Eucharistic minister. Her faith and generosity were central to her life, and she was known for her many acts of kindness.

She was a talented seamstress, knitter, and quilter, and delighted in arranging flowers from her husband’s garden to share with others. A 25-year breast cancer survivor, Mary Ann inspired many with her resilience and compassion.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Moreland Funeral Home in Westerville, Ohio. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at The Parish of St. Josephine Bakhita at St. Elizabeth Church in Columbus, Ohio.

Mary Ann Melvin will be remembered for her devotion to family, her service to others, her positivity and the warmth she brought to all who knew her.
