Alan Dale Bumpus, 65, passed away peacefully in his sanctuary, surrounded by his beloved wife of nearly 30 years, Amy, and his two sons, Wesley (26) and Ethan (23). His courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, though brief, was marked by incredible strength. Alan's life was cut tragically short, but he made every moment count.
Alan is also survived by his mother, Carol (Brown) Bumpus of Mansfield, and his siblings: Pam (Alan) Sanford, Jim (Tracey) Bumpus, and Linda (Brian Stein) Bumpus. He was a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews: Scott (Kelli) Hall, Austin Wiggin, Elise (Cam) Wiggin, Hannah (Jason) Bumpus, Samantha (Bryce) Hill, MacCanne Sanford, Robert Sanford, Benjamin (Nadiia Bielozub) Landis, Emma Bumpus, Devin Hall, Ella Hall, Brody Blust, Alaina Blust, Cody Hall, and Colt Bumpus. He will also be missed by many cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Vaughn Howard Bumpus; grandparents, Garnet and Catherine Bumpus, and Elma Harrison. He had the greatest love for all.
Alan had an intense love of life and adventure, which included flying with his brother, Jim, and friends, riding his Harley, running, cycling, hiking, swimming, and sailing. He spent many happy hours working on building his own Pietenpohl 1929 airplane, and helping his brother with his custom designed Bush Hopper airplane. He enjoyed running and bodybuilding with his sister Pam. He found happy time with Linda and was very proud she got her own motorcycle. Alan loved to spend time with his boys sharing everything he loved, including going to art and natural history museums all over. He was so proud that they both graduated from the University of Cincinnati. Wesley with an Aerospace Engineering Degree and Ethan with an Environmental Engineering Degree. He knew they would both be destined to do great things.
Born and raised in the Mansfield area, he loved spending time in the beautiful Mohican Park. He graduated from Madison High School in 1977, then he followed his passion for art, and graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD, Columbus OH) in 1981 with a BA in Advertising & Illustration. He began his career at the Ohio State University and loved his time there with all he was able to create. His next career steps took him to advertising agencies, and he founded his own company Mars Communications (later Zero Base Advertising) in 1990. He loved the people he brought together and poured his heart into its success. He was honored to collaborate with so many talented individuals. Alan was always exactly who he needed to be for the people he loved.
Alan embraced life with unmatched energy and passion. As he recently posted on his website, "At an age where most are thinking about kicking back and taking it easy, Im just getting warmed up!" He lived without regrets.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Alan's remarkable life at our home on Sunday, September 29th, 2024, from Noon to 6 PM (6316 Char-Mar Drive, Westerville, OH 43082). In keeping with the open-door spirit that Alan cherished, all are welcome. The Rev Dr Tracy Pryor will offer a prayer at 3:00 PM. Please bring your stories and memories of Alan to share, as he formed a unique bond with everyone he knew.

Amy, I am so so sorry to hear about Alan's battle with pancreatic cancer and his passing. It was just shocking to hear of this and I can't imagine all that you, Wesley and Ethan have gone through since his diagnosis. My heart is broken for you. Amy, Wesley and Ethan, I was so sorry and stunned to learn about Alan. I always enjoyed talking with him, and am so sad I won't be seeing him walking by. He was a wonderful person, and we are lucky to have known him.

I graduated with Alan, we shared the same birthday, but I was born in 59. I can remember meeting Alan when we moved to Mansfield from Cali. The first thing I noticed was his smile, it was so warm and happy. I think I talked to much for Alan, I know I did!! He'd just laugh and smile. We found each other again after many years on fb. I cannot tell you what a shock it was to hear Alan was gone. I always wished him a happy Birthday. I'm glad I met Alan in school and no matter how quite he was I talked his ear off. Just know your all in my prayers, especially his wife and boys. May the memories bring a smile to your face, maybe you can laugh at memories too. Just remember memories are so cherished now hold them near your heart's.
