Thomas Jay Ranney passed away suddenly June 3,2024. He will be remembered as a fun loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Tom was born on February 8, 1951, in Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio to Halden and Elizabeth (Betty) Ranney. He is preceded in death by both his parents and his younger sister Martha (Ranney) Hupp.

He is survived by his wife of almost 51 years, Bonnie (Neuburger) Ranney; daughter Wendy (Ranney) Bruno and her husband Robert Bruno and their 2 sons Roman and Vincent Bruno , daughter Kelly (Ranney) McIntyre and husband Travis McIntyre and their son Tristin and daughter Peyton and daughter Rebecca (Ranney) Morley and her husband Sean Morley and their son Kellen. Tom is also survived by 2 younger sisters, Connie (Ranney) Harshe and Sally Ranney and many cousins, nieces, nephews, an aunt and an uncle.

Tom served in Ohio National Guard from February 20,1970 until his honorable discharge November 20, 1975 Tom was a self-employed owner operator of Miller Ranney Plumbing Company in Columbus, Ohio and surrounding areas for almost 47 years. He was known as the problem solver. He could solve just about every plumbing problem presented to him even over the phone while he was practicing his golf skills on his favorite golf course at Rattlesnake Ridge Golf Course in Sunbury, Ohio or Key West Golf Course in Key West, Florida. If he wasnt at the helm of his plumbing business, he could be found at his home in Key West enjoying the warmth, food, drink, music and camaraderie of friends and family and it was the same in Ohio as well. His second passion was fishing in Lake Erie, Canada and especially in Key West always with the goal of catching the big one. He absolutely loved his family and enjoyed being around his grandkids. He loved to play board games and card games and enjoyed competitive croquet games during summertime picnics in the back yard and having backyard barbecues not only with his family but also with close friends. He knew so many people and touched so many lives. He is missed dearly.

Instead of a formal funeral service a celebration of life party will be held at Rattlesnake Ridge Golf Course, 1 Rattlesnake Drive, Sunbury, OH 43074 on Saturday, August 31st from 1-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Wounded Warriors Project @ woundedwarriorproject.org in the name of Thomas J Ranney.

Bonnie, The photo you used for Tom's obit is perfect. Anyone who knew him will recognize that smile. Tom was a good man and a good friend.

Jenny Schoenfeld - Aug 26, 2024

Tom was my plumber when Roger Hatch built my house in 1987 and when Roger built my veterinary hospital a few years later. Tom always did a great job with necessary repairs over the years and I considered him to be a friend. I was crushed to receive a letter from Bonnie and Stephanie today, with which I learned of his passing. I will miss his smile and laugh, as he was always so positive in fixing my tricky plumbing problems. We used to kid each other about his frequent golf trips to Key West and my frequent ski trips to Vail, Colorado. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and friends.

Dennis Ranney - Jun 11, 2024

So sorry to hear about the passing of Tommy. I remember many stories about Tommy but one stands out about his character. At a Westerville Bank Tommy had walked in during a bank robbery. Tommy got into his truck and followed the robber down the highway. He was able to tell authorities the license plate number and description of the robber. Tommy was given a $1,000.00 reward by crime stoppers.

We are so sorry to hear that Tom had passed away so recently. He was such a fine gentleman, always a joy to play golf with him, regardless of the score. And then he became our go-to guy whenever we had a plumbing issue. He leaves behind a hole that cannot be filled at Rattlesnake Ridge, and will miss him immensely. Please accept our deepest condolences. May his memory be a blessing and provide you much comfort.
