Leave a message of condolence

Bernard R. "Bernie" Hatcher, age 77, of Westerville, passed away May 24, 2022. I bid a fond farewell to my family and friends, especially my beautiful wife Babette. I have missed my daughter Beth but am so happy she left us our grandson Brit who has brought so much joy to my life. There will be no service. When you remember me smile and raise your glasses to a life well lived. From a letter Major Sullivan Ballou wrote to his wife before he died at the battle of Bull Run in 1861. "If the dead can come back to this earth and flit unseen around those they loved, I shall always be near you, in the gladdest days and in the darkest nights, always, always, and if there be a soft breeze upon your cheek, it shall be my breath, as the cool air fans your throbing temple, it shall be my spirit passing by. Do not mourn me dead, think I am gone and shall wait for thee, for we shall meet again."

Bob and I knew Bernie as a classmate (class of '61). I think he was a leader from junior high forward; class president in 8th grade. He used to leave silly notes on the floor for our homeroom teacher to find when he paced around tidying up and keeping order. We sympathize with your great loss. Look up for comfort to the One who said "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by me."

I will always remember Bernie laughing. He had a wicked sense of humor and an infectious laugh that filled a room. He was always there for my family during difficult times. My children all remember his kindness and interest in them. He has always been a part of my life and he will be missed. Hugs to you , Babette.
