O’DONNELL

Judith Ann O’Donnell (Calhoun) of Westerville died Saturday, January 30, 2016 surrounded by her family after a brief battle with brain cancer. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James; children Jill O’Neill (John) of Columbus, Joel (Danielle) of Westerville; granddaughters, Ande ONeill, Jude ODonnell, Maggie ODonnell, great-grandson, Toren Barr; brother, Steve (Libby) Barnish of Albuquerque, NM; sisters, Debbie McClaskey (Rick) of Blacklick and Pam Hawkins (Ken) of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; aunts, Shirley Vickers, Ruth Woodward MacDonald and Beverly Pollock, all of Columbus; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, mourning across the country. She was preceded in death by parents, Stephen and Dorothy Barnish. Judith was born in Brownsville, PA in 1943 and grew up as a coal miners daughter in Clarksville, PA. She spent many summers at the Maryland shore as a girl, igniting her love of any beach. She worked at Nationwide Insurance in Columbus where she met her future husband. Judy was a stay at home mom, actively involved as room-mother, parent volunteer, tireless chauffeur and staunch supporter of her childrens activities and schools. For the last two decades, she turned this devotion and care giving to her granddaughters. Judy retired from her own small insurance partnership several years ago and loved nothing more than to travel with her husband, friends and family, and to lose herself in a good book, reading several every week. She was a puzzle fan, doing the crossword and Sudoku and played bridge regularly with dear friends. She loved to host friends and family in her home, and Christmas was her favorite time of year. The beach with loved ones, a good book and a glass of wine was a perfect day. Please join us for a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating our wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend at New Albany Church of the Resurrection, 6300 E. Dublin-Granville Road, New Albany, Ohio 43054, 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 5, 2016, Rev. Fr. Jerome P. Rodenfels, celebrant. Internment immediately following at Blendon Central Cemetery, 6350 Hempstead Road, Westerville, Ohio 43081. We request in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mount Carmel Foundation, Designation Hospice/Palliative Care in memory of Judy. Condolences at morelandfuneralhome.com

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Judy’s illness and death. Please know that my thoughts and prayers have been with you, her family. I met Judy in 1988 when the “Rookies” club was formed. Also my son, Doug Paxton, worked with Judy and Jill at the bagel shop. He was shocked when I told him the sad news and asked to be remembered to her family.
