In Memory of
Elaine Miller
August 16, 1927 - December 20, 2018

Elaine Miller, 91, an accomplished pianist and longtime resident of Canton, died of natural causes, Thursday, December 20th at Mount Carmel St Ann's Hospital in Columbus Ohio.
Elaine was born in Toledo and raised in Wooster, where she began piano lessons at the age of five. Her talent was quickly recognized and led to her first radio broadcast at the age of 10. She and her twin, Ellen, a violinist, and their older sister, Margaret, a cellist, often performed together. Elaine attended the College of Wooster graduating with honors, with a Bachelor of Music degree. Continuing her piano studies at Chautauqua, New York with James Friskin and at the Cleveland institute of Music with Victor Babin, Elaine went on to earn a Master of Arts degree at Kent State University School of Fine and Professional Arts, in 1960.
In the early 1950s Elaine opened a piano studio and continued to teach out of her home for over 50 years. For 25 years, she was a church organist in local Presbyterian churches, retiring in the early 1990s. However, in her late seventies, Elaine returned to playing the organ, this time for the Congregational United Church of Christ. She was a Malone College faculty member from 1962-1969.
Elaine was a member of book clubs, college club and was very interested in genealogy. An active member of the MacDowell Music Club since 1951, Elaine continued to perform with and arrange music for the MacDowell Piano Quartet well into her eighties.
Since 2017, Elaine has been living at Friendship Village in Columbus, where she has treasured being closer to her family members living in the Columbus area. Her last musical performance was a piano solo at the Friendship Village Talent show in May of this year.
Elaine was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret (Robert) Reynolds and Ellen (James) Bates. Survivors are nieces, Judy (Joseph) Rimelspach, Jan (Steve) Hufnagle, Joann (Paul) Rehg, Patricia Bates and nephews John (Sue) Reynolds, Jim (Janet) Reynolds, Jeff (Mary-Lynne) Reynolds, Peter (Margie) Bates and James (Kim Stewart) Bates.
