Lt. Colonel (U.S. Army retired) William Frederick Slocum I passed away peacefully on Friday, October 26, 2018. Son of Judge Winfield Scott Slocum and Grace R. Slocum (Lienhardt) born in Painesville, Ohio on November 1, 1929. He was 89. Preceeded in death by his brother W. Scott Slocum III (Eleanor) and sister Maryann Goddard (Claude). Survived by his wife Chiquita Kenworthy Slocum, children Susan Slocum Thurston (Rob Thurston), William Frederick Slocum II Rick (Kathy), Thomas Scott Slocum, (Cynthia), Sally Slocum and numerous grand and great grandchildren. Graduate of Culver Military Academy (Indiana) and Army Officers Candidate School (Ft. Riley, KS). Army Veteran Korean War serving with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. Retired Construction Superintendent. Founder and President of the North Independent Soccer Association. Affectionately known as Stumpy 00. Assistant Scout Master Troop 560 and leader in the Y.M.C.A. Indian Guides (Westerville, Ohio). Honor Flight participant. Loving husband of 65 years and father, hard working, honest, and never met a gin martini he didnt like! Very sadly missed by family and many friends. Celebration of life to be at a later date. To Quita and the entire Slocum family. We are very saddened of the loss of Bill and send our heartfelt condolences as you get through this difficult time. He will be missed by all who knew him as he was a wonderful man. Sympathies from Nancy Bommer and all of the Bommer family.
