Walter Robinson, age 101, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017. He was born in Delaware County on June 13, 1916 and orphaned at 19 months old in the 1918 flu epidemic. He graduated from Delaware Willis High School, served in the Army Signal Corp. in WWII and was on the first ship into Tokyo Harbor after the Armistice was signed, helping to reestablish telephone and telegraph services to Japan. Over the years, Walter managed a "ten-cent" store, owned a dry cleaners, drove a bus for Mifflin Local Schools and retired as a Supply Specialist for Big Drum. His interests and hobbies included family activities, bowling, golf, dancing, playing cards and being one of the original members of the "Scooters" at the Westerville MCL Restaurant. Another highlight of his life was being Portal Chief (usher) for The Ohio State University football games for 43 years. He was also a 60-year member of Linden Lodge #637; NW Masonic Temple; and a 35-year member of the Aladdin Temple Shrine. Preceded in death by wife, Vivian Eileen Ray Robinson and wife, Ruth Knapp Robinson, parents, Georgia Mae Pinney Robinson and Charles Smith Robinson, and by his Aunt Maude Pinney Warren and Uncle Walter Warren, who raised him, brother, David Robinson, sister, Evelyn Robinson Thomas and cousin, Ivadel Warren Nichols. Survived by daughter Linda Robinson; stepdaughters, Suzann Knapp (Dick) Klein, Diane Knapp (Tim) Sonnenberg, Jane Knapp (Jim) Sagraves and stepson, Tim (Peggy) Knapp; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many other family and friends who also loved him dearly. Visitation on Friday, Nov. 10 from 11:30 - 1:00 at MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Rd., Westerville, with a Christian service by Pastor Tim Sonnenberg. Burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery at 3840 Sunbury Rd., Columbus.
