BUMPUS

Edward Lee Bumpus, age 85, of Centerburg, OH died Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Knox Community Hospital. He was born July 18, 1931 in Coshocton, OH. U.S. Army veteran of Korean Conflict. He was injured and sent to Camp Zama, Japan where he met Yukiko Tamada, fell in love and they were married on December 19, 1951. After he was discharged from the military, he decided to make Tokyo his home. Four children later, plans changed and in 1958, he moved his family to Centerburg, OH, two more kids and the rest is history. He was a self taught artist and sign painter/designer for numerous sign companies in the Columbus area. Later in his life, he enjoyed creating art, painting and sketching everyone he came in contact with. To some he was a clown, a curmudgeon, a bit eccentric. But whatever you thought of him...underneath he was a good man who tried his own personal best as he traveled on his life's journey. Survived by his daughter, Constance (Mark) Winkler; sons, Gary (Mickey) Bumpus, John (Beth) Bumpus, Larry Bumpus and Charles Bumpus; grandchildren, Christina Bumpus, Ian (Josie) Bumpus, Kiko (Mark) Johnson, Kent (Rachel) Bumpus and Joey (Meredith) Bumpus; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Leroy (Juanita) Bumpus and Ron Bumpus; sisters, Maxine (Bob) Hamler and Beverly (Willie) Littlejohn; nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Preceded in death by his wife, Yukiko, son, Carl (Pony), grandson, Keith Winkler, parents, Florence (Smith) and James F. Bumpus. Friends may call at the JOHNSON-MELICK-MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 49 W. Church Street, Centerburg, OH Friday from 6-8 p.m. where service will be held Saurday at 10 a.m., Leroy Bumpus, officiating. Interment Eastview Cemetery. Jun 22, 2017

My sincere condolences. Ronny and I visited with Ed on June 13th. So happy we got to see him and share laughs, a hug and kiss on the forehead. I told him that I loved him and he acknowledged me with, "thank you for saying that." I hold a special spot in my mind and heart for him. I know he is now reunited with his lovely bride that he missed so, so much. Rest In Peace my friend. Hugs to your family.
